McGynn will read from his award-winning book, A Door in the Ocean, and be available for a meet and greet at
The Foundry Books, 205 Commerce St, Mineral Point WI.

SRA Winter Writers Series Welcomes
Kingery/Derleth Book-Length Non-Fiction Award Winner David McGlynn
(Mineral Point, WI) Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts continues the 2013/14 SRA Winter Writers
Series, an ongoing series of events to support and encourage the development of regional writers, by
welcoming Council for Wisconsin Writers’ 2013 Kingery/Derleth Book-Length Non-Fiction Award
Winner David McGlynn, to Mineral Point on March 16 for a week-long residency. The residency will
feature a free reading and Q&A at The Foundry Books, 105 Commerce St, Mineral Point, WI on
Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 6 p.m.
David McGlynn won the Council for Wisconsin Writers’ ’ 2013 Kingery Derleth Book-Length Non-Fiction Award for his book, A Door in the Ocean (Counterpoint Press, Berkeley, CA). In addition, McGlynn is the author of the story collection, The End of the Straight and Narrow, which won the 2008 Utah Book Award, was a finalist for the 2009 Steven Turner Award for Best First Fiction, and was named
an “Outstanding Achievement” by the Wisconsin Librarians’ Association. His stories and essays have
appeared in Men’s Health, The Huffington Post, Best American Sports Writing, and numerous literary

Now in its third year, the SRA Winter Writers Series is built around partnerships with the Council for
Wisconsin Writers, Wisconsin People & Ideas, and the WI Poet Laureate Commission (sponsored by
Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters). The series runs between the months of November
through April, and includes workshops, readings and community outreach activities featuring these
organizations’ annual writing contest winners, during their week-long residencies at Shake Rag Alley.
