Council for Wisconsin Writers members congratulate Patricia Smith, who served as the 2015-2016 Council for Wisconsin Writers’ Edna Meudt Poetry Book Award judge, on winning the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award at Claremont Graduate University.
“The award is one of the most prestigious and lucrative honors in poetry, and is given to a poet in mid-career. Its $100,000 prize is the largest in the world given for a single volume of poetry,” according to an article in the Orange County (California) Register, announcing the award.
Professor Smith serves on faculty of the College of Staten Island. The work for which she was recognized with the Kingsley Tufts Award is a collection entitled Incendiary Art: Poems.
CWW celebrates with Professor Smith and is pleased that a judge of our book -length poetry contest was honored with this high award.
