The South Asian Literary Association (SALA) has awarded Shauna Singh Baldwin their annual Distinguished Creative Writer prize. The award ceremony was held on Jan 7, 2019 in Chicago at the South Asian Literary Association annual convention. The prize is given for a body of work. There is no application process.
Shauna Singh Baldwin is a Canadian-American writer of Indian heritage. She is the author of three novels, two collections of short stories, and two works of non-fiction. She is the recipient of awards such as the Friends
of American Writers Prize, the Canadian Literary Award, the Writers Union of Canada Prize, the Commonwealth Prize for Best Boom (Canada-Caribbean), and the Ann Powers Fiction Prize from the Council for Wisconsin Writers. Her novel The Tiger Claw was short listed for the Giller Prize and optioned for film. Her play We Are So Different Now has been staged in Toronto. She holds an MBA from Marquette University and an MFA from the University of British Columbia. She has served on the board of the Council for Wisconsin Writers. She lives in Milwaukee, WI.
