Monday, April 15, 6:30 p.m. – Marilyn Annucci and Susan Elbe
The Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets (WFOP) Fox Valley Poetry Series meets at Harmony Cafe in Appleton (233 E. College Ave) on the third Monday of most months. Each evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with the featured reader(s), followed by an open mic open to anyone who wishes to read 1-2 poems.
Marilyn Annucci won first place in the 2012 Sunken Garden Poetry Award, selected by Tony Hoagland, for her chapbook Waiting Room (Hill-Stead Museum, 2012). She grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, and is an associate professor in the Department of Languages and Literatures at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she has taught a variety of writing classes for fifteen years. She is also the author of Luck, a chapbook from Parallel Press, and her poems have appeared in numerous journals, including Dogwood, Umbrella Journal, Prairie Schooner, Southern Poetry Review, Verse Wisconsin, North American Review, 5 am, and Indiana Review.
Susan Elbe is the author of Eden in the Rearview Mirror (Word Press), which won Honorable Mention for the Council for Wisconsin Writers Posner Poetry Book Award, and two chapbooks, Light Made from Nothing (Parallel Press) and Where Good Swimmers Drown (Concrete Wolf Press, 2012). She won the 2012 Backwaters Press Prize for her second collection, The Map of What Happened, due out in 2013. Her poems appear or are forthcoming in many journals and anthologies. Among her awards are the 2011 Concrete Wolf Poetry Chapbook Prize, the inaugural Lois Cranston Memorial Poetry Prize (Calyx), the Council for Wisconsin Writers Lorine Niedecker Award, and fellowships to Vermont Studio Center and Virginia Center for Creative Arts. APRIL 17 – 24, THE FOX CITIES BOOK FESTIVAL: CHECK OUT THE FULL SCHEDULE OF POETRY AND MORE ATwww.foxcitiesbookfestival.org — there are SO many wonderful authors presenting through the week, but key poetry events occur on Friday, April 19 (spoken word workshop and performance by 2-time national slam champ, Guante!), Saturday, April 20 (craft talk and reading by MN Poet Laureate Joyce Sutphen) and a full day of poetry readings, craft talk and panel discussions on Sunday, April 21 at Atlas Coffee Mill including a tribute to Ellen Kort and reading by WI Poet Laureate Max Garland!
APRIL 23 (TUES), APPLEBLOSSOM BOOKS, OSHKOSH FEATURES JEANIE AND STEVE TOMASKO: Jeanie and Steve live in Middleton, but their hearts reside near Lake Superior. From reading his poems, you might think that Steve has some kind of insect fetish. You might not be too far off the mark. Jeanie is the author of Sharp as Want (Little Eagle Press), a poetry /artworks collaboration with Sharon Auberle, Tricks of Light (Parallel Press) and the e-chapbook, If I Confess Before 5:00 (Right Hand Pointing.) The reading takes place at 6:30 pm at Apple Blossom Books, 200 E City Center, Oshkosh. An open mic will follow where participants may read one or two of their own poems or poems by others that they love. Come early and enjoy a meal or grab a cup of coffee at Caramel Crisp and Café whose inner doors connect with the bookstore.
