Wow, here it is nearly the middle of June and I’m just getting around to posting SCBWI-WI members’ June 1 “good news” reports. Here’s what I know so far:
Lisa Moser says Candlewick Press released her beginning reader, Squirrel’s Fun Day, illustrated by Valeri Gorbachev, on June 11th. This book is the sequel to Squirrel’s
World, which Lisa says has received wonderful reviews.” Another of her books, Cowboy Boyd and Mighty Calliope is being released on Aug. 27 and has gotten a Kirkus starred review.
Ann Angel, author of Janis Joplin has signed with Adams Literary with plans to publish an anthology of short stories for young adult readers.
Jesse Klausmeier‘s picture book Open This Little Book has won a 2013 Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor for Excellence in Children’s Literature.
Pat Miller‘s picture book Sophie’s Squash received starred reviews from Kirkus and Publishers Weekly.
Dori Chacanos has signed with Viking for her tenth book in the Cork and Fuzz easy reader series, scheduled to be published in 2015. Dori says that when the first Cork and Fuzz book was published in 2002, "I never dreamed it would become a series of ten books."
Andrea Skyberg‘s new book CommuniTree was released this week. This book was a collaboration with 686 students at the Milwaukee Public Schools, Dover School and Tippecanoe School for the Arts, as they merged to become the new Milwaukee Parkside School for the Arts. Andrea says a book trailer is posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mozsjXmR77w
Congratulations to all of these authors!
