Spoken word poets are needed to participate in Appleton’s PARK[ing] Day event on Friday, September 21.
PARK[ing] Day is a nationwide annual event that is designed to reshape small areas of the community, parking spots, into pop-up spaces that demonstrate that a large part of our city space is dedicated to vehicles, while the open spaces created for people is becoming smaller. In these temporary “parklets,” a need for the community can be established: whether it is a creative space, a humanitarian need, or just a place to relax.
For the parklet space that will be in front of Mud & Prints, in Appleton, area artist Cristian Andersson is developing a stage for rotating for the performing arts, and is dedicating an hour to the spoken word.
Info on the annual event can be found here: https://www.asla.org/uploadedFiles/CMS/Events/Parking_Day_Manual_Consecutive.pdf
The PARK[ing] Day falls on the Downtown Appleton “Art on the Town”: https://appletondowntown.org/artonthetown/
The entire PARK[ing] time for Art on the Town is from 5 – 8pm, and I’m thinking the poetry will happen at the end, from 7pm – 8pm. The schedule is shaping up like this:
5 – 5:30/45: Performance by members of the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra
6 – 6:30/45: Contemporary dance by Katharina Abderholden and members of the Valley Academy for the Arts
6:30 – 7:00: (potentially overlapping with the dance): “New Media Art” by Milwaukee artist, Jessica Fenlon
7:00 – 8:00: Poetry and spoken word by area writers.
If Interested, please contact Cristian Andersson or Emily Bowles – email addresses above. Thanks!
