The WI SCBWI folks report the following recent good news: Sharon Addy says, "Fun for Kidz magazine said yes to a fill in the blank story. It's not a huge sale, but the reward of a sale is bigger than the check that will (eventually) come. I write little things because they're fun and I love the back and forth of SASEs. They make me feel connected. This policy of not returning ms might cut expenses, but it doesn't provide the affirmation that someone actually looked at the work. Other than that, I have a story under contract with Cricket." Sharon also reports that two of her picture books, Lucky Jake and Right Here On This Spot, are among the books suggested for the nation-wide summer library program with the theme 'Dig in and Read.' Sheri Sinykin, who relocated from Wisconsin to Massachusetts a couple of years ago, will be in Green Bay this fall to receive the Wisconsin Library Association's Elizabeth Burr/Worzalla Award for the most distinguished children's book by a Wisconsin-connected children's book creator in 2012 for her picture book Zayde Comes to Live. While in Wisconsin, Sheri will be at Temple Beth El of Madison on Oct. 27 to present my PowerPoint, “GOOD GRIEF: How to Talk to Talk to A Child about Death.” In addition to the WLA award, Shari reports that Zayde has received the Sydney Taylor Honor Award for Younger Readers by the Association of Jewish Librariesa Paterson Prize for Books for Young People (honor book) by The Poetry Center at Passaic County (NJ) Community College. "I am still pinching myself about all these awards for my first picture book!" she says. The YA anthology Things I'll Never Say, Short Stories About Our Secret Selves Ann Angel is editing is scheduled for release next year. Ann says anthology contributors include Ron Koertge, Chris Lynch, Ellen Wittlinger, Cynthia Leitich Smith, Varian Johnson and Kerry Cohen and some UK writers. "Each teaching writer is being allowed to invite one debut author to submit," Ann says. "Of those, I'll select one story by a debut author which is a cool way to bring new voices into the picture." Lisa Moser says her new book Squirrel's Fun Day "received a really wonderful review and write up in The Wall Street Journal in the June 8/9 weekend edition." How great is that!
